Contribution to My Learning and the Learning Community

Self-Assessment Score: 94/100

Throughout this course, I actively contributed to both my own learning and the learning of the course community by engaging with course materials, collaborating with peers, and connecting ideas from multiple courses within the Applied Digital Learning (ADL) program. The structure of the ADL program encourages self-directed learning, collaboration, and reflection, which supports the development of lifelong learners. As Fink (2013) explains, students must learn how to assess the quality of their own work in order to become powerful performers and self-directed learners.

Reflecting on my engagement throughout this course, I believe a score of 95 accurately represents my contributions to my learning and the learning community. One of the most valuable aspects of this course was the opportunity to connect assessment strategies to my innovation project and to ideas developed in other ADL courses.

For example, in EDLD 5305 – Disruptive Innovation in Technology, I developed my innovation plan focused on integrating AI-supported conversational tools in World Languages classrooms to support second language acquisition and communicative competence. In EDLD 5315, I was able to expand that work by focusing on how assessment strategies and data collection methods can be used to evaluate the impact of the innovation. This helped me refine how I will measure student engagement, language proficiency development, and the effectiveness of AI-supported learning tools.

The assignments in this course also allowed me to strengthen the research foundation of my project. In the Action Research Design Outline, I clarified the research question, methodology, and population that will guide my study. This assignment helped me organize the structure of my research and ensure that the design aligns with the goals of my innovation project.

Later, the Literature Review allowed me to explore research related to digital learning environments, language acquisition, and formative assessment practices. The process of reviewing scholarly literature helped me identify research-based strategies that support technology integration and student-centered learning.

In addition to completing course assignments, I consistently engaged with the readings, videos, and supporting resources throughout the course. These materials deepened my understanding of the differences between assessment of learning, assessment for learning, and assessment as learning, which are important concepts when designing meaningful learning experiences. These ideas also connect to concepts explored in EDLD 5317 – Resources for Digital Environments, where we examined how digital tools and instructional resources can support effective learning environments.

Another important component of my learning experience was collaboration with classmates. Throughout the course, I participated in discussion forums and responded to peers’ ideas by connecting course concepts to classroom practice. As a Spanish teacher, I often reflected on how digital learning strategies and assessment methods could be applied to language instruction. I made an effort to post responses in a timely manner so classmates could engage in discussion and build on shared ideas.

My base collaboration group included the following classmates:

  • Jennifer Haden

  • Thomas Robinson

Through these collaborative exchanges, I gained valuable insights from educators working in different contexts. Our discussions helped strengthen my understanding of how digital learning strategies can be implemented across different subjects and grade levels. These interactions also helped me refine my own thinking about how to measure the effectiveness of my innovation project.

Another strength of my participation in this course was my commitment to revising and improving my work. Rather than viewing assignments as isolated tasks, I approached them as opportunities to refine the different components of my innovation project and capstone work. This mindset aligns with the goals of EDLD 5320 – Synthesis of Digital Learning and Leadership, where we integrate our coursework and innovation project into a comprehensive ePortfolio.

Revising and refining my assignments throughout this course helped strengthen the alignment between my research design, measurement strategies, and innovation plan. Although I believe I contributed strongly to my learning and to the learning community, there are still areas where I could improve. For example, I could increase the number of informal contributions in discussions and provide more frequent feedback to peers beyond the required responses. Increasing these interactions could further strengthen collaboration within the learning community.

Overall, this course helped me deepen my understanding of how assessment supports meaningful learning and innovation in education. The knowledge and skills gained will directly support the implementation of my innovation project and my continued growth as a digital learning leader.
