My ADL Journey: Becoming a Digital Learning Leader
The Applied Digital Learning (ADL) program at Lamar University provided an opportunity for me to grow not only as an educator, but also as a digital learner and emerging leader in educational innovation. Throughout this program, I explored research-based strategies for improving instruction, developed an innovation plan, and created a professional ePortfolio that documents my learning journey.
This page provides a synthesis of my experience in the ADL program. It reflects on where I began, the challenges and successes I encountered, the work I created, and the lessons I learned along the way. More importantly, it demonstrates how all of the assignments and projects completed throughout the program connect together to form a cohesive vision for improving digital learning environments.
Introduction for the Learning Journey Roadmap
This visual roadmap represents my journey through the Applied Digital Learning program and highlights the key ideas, projects, and reflections that shaped my growth as an educator. Each milestone along the road represents an important part of my learning process, from exploring concepts such as Learner Mindset and the COVA framework to developing my Innovation Plan and documenting my thinking through reflective blogging.
Throughout the program, I completed several projects that helped me better understand how digital learning environments can support meaningful instruction. These experiences include my work on Creating Significant Learning Environments (CSLE) and COVA, the development of my Innovation Plan, and the research completed for my Literature Review. I also documented my growth through reflective blog posts, which helped me connect theory, coursework, and classroom practice.
Rather than viewing these projects as isolated assignments, this roadmap illustrates how each experience connects and contributes to my overall development as a digital learner and educator.

Reflection Through Blogging
Throughout my journey in the Applied Digital Learning program, blogging became an important space for reflection, exploration, and growth. Each post captures a moment in my learning process as I explored new ideas related to digital learning, instructional innovation, leadership, and language education. Writing these reflections allowed me to think more deeply about my experiences and connect course concepts with my work as a Spanish teacher.
Many of these posts focus on strategies for improving language learning experiences in the classroom. For example, I explored topics such as gamification in world language classes, the use of music and film to support language acquisition, virtual reality for immersive language learning, and the role of storytelling in building meaningful connections to language and culture. These reflections helped me think critically about how technology and creative instructional strategies can support student engagement and communication.
Other posts document my personal development as a learner and educator during the program. Reflections such as “Finding My Voice as a Teacher, Writer, and Innovator,” “My Journey in Creating an ePortfolio,” and “The Role of Voice in My ePortfolio” allowed me to reflect on my growth, challenges, and evolving perspective on digital learning leadership. Through these posts, I began to see how reflection plays an important role in shaping both professional practice and lifelong learning.

The Road Ahead
As I move forward beyond the Applied Digital Learning program, I plan to continue refining and implementing my innovation project in ways that support meaningful language learning experiences for my students. My goal is to expand opportunities for Spanish learners to practice authentic communication through technology-supported environments that encourage confidence, participation, and collaboration. I also hope to continue exploring new instructional strategies, digital tools, and innovative approaches that align with the principles of learner ownership and authentic learning.
In the future, I aim to share what I have learned with other educators and contribute to conversations about how digital learning can enhance language education. This journey has reinforced my belief that learning is an ongoing process, and I look forward to continuing to grow as an educator, learner, and leader in digital learning environments.
