Developing my course helped me think more intentionally about how learners experience my course from the moment they log in. Building the welcome materials, expectations, and navigation instructions made me realize how important it is to create an immediate sense of clarity and direction. I wanted the start of the course to feel warm, organized, and easy to follow.
Creating the instructional modules pushed me to look closely at alignment. Each module now follows a consistent pattern: learning outcomes at the top, followed by input, guided practice, independent application, and reflection. This sequencing made my instructional design more intentional and helped me ensure that every task connects directly to what students are expected to learn. It also made me more aware of the importance of pacing, scaffolding, and building in opportunities for students to practice skills before applying them independently.
Recording the implementation video was especially valuable because it forced me to walk through my course the same way my learners would. Explaining each section out loud helped me notice where instructions needed to be simplified or where transitions could be smoother. It also allowed me to reflect on my role in the course. Although I provide content and guidance, the structure is designed to be student-centered, my role shifts into facilitator and coach rather than lecturer. This aligns with the blended format of the course, which includes both self-paced learning and structured opportunities for interaction.
Peer feedback also played an important role in shaping my final design. Several classmates mentioned the importance of avoiding overly condensed modules and being mindful of cognitive load. Their comments made me revisit the pacing of my activities and streamline sections that felt too dense. I revised instructions to be clearer, reorganized some content into smaller chunks, and ensured that each module focused on a manageable set of tasks. This feedback reinforced that effective design is not just about including strong content, it’s about organizing that content in a way that supports learners at every step. Their feedback helped me complete all five modules of my course.
Overall, this experience helped me understand how intentional design, combined with reflective practice and peer insights, creates a stronger learning environment. I now feel more confident in building modules that are clear, navigable, aligned to outcomes, and grounded in student-centered principles. The process not only improved my course but also strengthened my overall approach to instructional design.
