Reflection
Introduction
When I first started the course Concepts of Educational Technology, I was afraid of not being in the graduate level writing. My first thought was that our professor would assign us assignments and would leave us to complete it by ourselves with no help. But that was not the case. I received the help that I needed to grow as a graduate student. My writing level has improved significantly with the assignments of this course and the course Disruptive Innovation in Technology with Dr.Johnson. I doubted myself and was scared of being different or having a different capacity than other graduate students, but professor Harrison made us realize that we all have different personalities. We all bring different attributes to the table and that is completely okay. The first assignment being the “Technology Learning Manifesto” made me realize that we all have different objectives as educators. Mine is to give my students voice and control over their learning.
Ever since the first collaborative discussion. I have applied the COVA approach in my teaching and I see a significant improvement in my students' learning. Our second assignment “Personality and Technology Leadership Philosophy”, has helped me be more conscious of my learning style. I have realized my strengths and weaknesses as an orange dominant personality and an autocratic leader. Lastly, our last assignment, “Technology Case Study, has made me realize that working as a team is much better when we know their different personalities. Having taken our personality assessments before our last assignment, made our team better approach this assignment.
Evaluation of Successes
I believe everything is working well. I am improving my writing skills and my research skills. I have come to realize that I am thinking more like a scholar. I think critically and engage with existing knowledge. Change is important and that is something we learned from this course.
Areas of Growth or Improvement
Areas of improvement in my learning are my writing skills and organization skills. Writing was never my strongest competency, but I have improved and now have more confidence. My organizational skills also have improved, but I still struggle with deadlines. Being a short-term driven person, makes me more likely to procrastinate. This is something that I learned from our personality test and it is something that I will be working on. Reflection of Each Assignment Technology Learning Manifesto The learning manifesto assignment has taught me that we all approach teaching differently. All teachers have different learning philosophies and that is what makes us unique. In my learning manifesto, I focus on being open to improvement and emphasizing the importance of creative learning.
Personality & Leadership Philosophy
The personality and leadership philosophy assignment was my best-loved assignment for this course. The reason is because I learned so much about myself and my leadership style. I agree that I am a likable and caring person. I love to contribute and to consider everyone's voice when being a leader in my team.
Technology Case Study Analysis
The technology case study was something different to me because I never really knew how to plan and execute a project in the educational setting. It takes much time and effort to bring on a project in a classroom, especially if it's technology related. With this assignment, I feel prepared to propose innovations and programs that will benefit my students,
Collaborative Discussions
The collaborative discussion was something new to my knowledge and experience, but I really enjoyed them. I appreciated the idea of working as a team, even though we are miles away. I learned that I am a very good analyser and thinker. Some of the team members were more responsible than others, but we all managed to get our work done. We all molded each other to the personalities of our team members after our personality traits and leadership styles. One thing I would like to change would be the number of people in a group. I believe that having a maximum of three people per team is more manageable than four. The smaller the team, the less dependency we have.
Overall, I learned so much from these collaborative discussions. I enjoyed that we could interact and learn from each other in a creative and fun way. Conclusion: Overall, I really enjoyed being in this course. My first graduate class was fun and engaging because of the creative and innovative assignments. The reading and videos were engaging and full of important information. I learned a lot about myself and built up my confidence as a graduate student. I look forward to growing more and learning from both my professor and classmates.
